Portraiture can be challenging and getting an accurate likeness involves careful observation, measurement, technique and practice. This three day intensive workshop breaks down portraiture into steps that allow exploration of each element that makes up the form of the human head.
Workshop concentration will be on the development of drawing techniques and observation skills to help participants understand how to create a human portrait in graphite.
What will you learn?
DAY 1
Drawing tools and best practices
Basic Animal facial anatomy – the skull
Placement of features on the head
Drawing the eye, nose, and mouth
DAY 2
Warm up head sketches
Drawing the ear and hair
How to start a drawing
Proportion and measurement
Shading and values
DAY 3
Based on knowledge and skills learned in Days 1 and 2, you will prepare a line drawing of the subject of your choice and work, under guidance, towards a finished drawing.
Who should attend?
Basic drawing skills are a prerequisite and participation in the Introduction to Classical Drawing or similar workshop or some previous drawing experience is recommended. Beginner artists can, however, benefit from the information and experience in drawing a human face.
